BAKE DEPT. traces its beginnings to a curiosity for sourdough sparked in 2013, later refined through years of dedicated practice, including experience in a fine dining kitchen. The bakery’s sourdough starter is now over 15 years old — carefully nurtured like a living organism, fed daily, and respected as the heart of every loaf.







They work with only FOUR ingredients: flour, sea salt, water, and wild yeast. No commercial yeast, no additives — just time, wild fermentation, and that deep, tangy magic. Fermentation is done naturally in Malaysia’s climate, adapting patiently even through long, rainy days when the dough needs more time.
